Scripps Ranch

Friends Of The Library

As you know, our beloved Scripps Miramar Ranch Library Center closed its doors on May 12, 2026, to begin the highly anticipated, approximately 8-month roof and HVAC replacement, alongside the lower parking lot expansion. While our physical space is temporarily quiet, the spirit of our library community remains as vibrant as ever!

Because the library will remain completely closed to the public and staff during this construction period, FOLIO will temporarily transition to an every-other-month publishing schedule. This July issue is our first on this new timeline, and you can look forward to our next update in September. We will continue to keep you informed of renovation progress, community updates, and ways we are preparing to make our reopened library better than ever.

Thank you for your patience, your loyalty, and your continued advocacy for our library!

Library Construction and Closure Update

Renovation Milestones: The replacement of our library’s roof and HVAC system is moving along swiftly, with the roof work reportedly more than halfway completed and preliminary HVAC work currently in progress. Furthermore, after a long hiatus of over two years, work on our lower parking lot expansion has officially resumed. The overall library closure is still expected to last approximately 8 months.

Our Staff in the Community: While our building is closed, most of our dedicated library staff members are continuing to serve patrons at other San Diego Public Library branches. Be sure to say hello if you spot them around the county!

A Fond Farewell to Cindy Marshall: We want to wish a very happy retirement to Scripps Ranch resident Cindy Marshall! Cindy has a special place in our library’s history, having launched her San Diego Public Library career right here at our branch under our original Branch Manager, Nancy Assaf. Thank you, Cindy, for your years of dedication to our readers!

Accessing Library Services during the Closure

Need to return a book or pick up your next great read? You don't have to wait for our doors to reopen!

Library books and other materials can be returned to the Mira Mesa Branch Library or to any library in the SDPL system (visit www.sandiego.gov/public-library/locations to find a location near you). When placing a hold through your online San Diego Public Library account, you will be prompted to select the branch library where you'd like to pick up your books.

Seed Library

The Seed Library, which is sponsored by the SRFOL and was founded in collaboration with Sustainable Scripps Ranch, has been successfully relocated during the time our library building is closed.

  • Database Updates: Our dedicated volunteers are currently hard at work updating the seed inventory database, which includes many wonderful new acquisitions perfect for your garden!

Friends of the Library Board Update

The Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library Board of Directors continues to meet regularly behind the scenes to guide our organization and plan for our exciting future reopening.

Our next meeting will be in August. Members of the Friends of the Scripps Ranch Library are welcome to attend this board meeting where the board members will be elected. Please email president@srfol.org for the location, date, and time.

Many Thanks to the Scripps Ranch Women’s Club!

The SRFOL is sincerely grateful to the Scripps Ranch Women’s Club for their generous donation, designated toward enhancing the children’s area! This donation will be used to purchase a large construction set of oversized blocks, part of our Youth Services Librarian’s "wish list," which will surely be popular with our youngest builders when we reopen our doors.

It is partnerships like these that remind us how vital our library is to families in Scripps Ranch. We cannot wait to see these blocks in action!

Book Discussion Group

Our Book Discussion Group continues to meet, adjusting our location to our neighboring library branch.

  • July Discussion: This month the group is reading James by Percival Everett. Join the discussion on Thursday, July 23, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the community space at the Mira Mesa Library. All meetings will be held at this branch while the Scripps Ranch Library is closed.

  • Looking Ahead: Next month’s selection is the survival classic Endurance by Alfred Lansing. Copies are available for checkout now at the Mira Mesa Library.

We’re Still Active, and We Need Your Support!

Despite the Scripps Ranch Library’s current closure, the Friends of the Library remains active behind the scenes. We are already looking ahead and planning for the day we can welcome you all back to a refreshed, comfortable, and beautifully updated facility.

Join us as a new Friend. In recognition of the library’s closure, new memberships or renewals this year will be extended through June of next year. Just go to www.srfol.org to become a Friend.

Your support during this closure is more critical than ever. Tax-deductible donations to the SRFOL directly fund resources, programs, and enhancements that municipal budgets don't cover.

  • Support Our Mission: Your tax-deductible donations are deeply appreciated and will be warmly acknowledged.
  • Invest in the Future: Be a part of the SRFOL's goal of making our refurbished library even more special for generations to come.

To make a secure, tax-deductible contribution online, please visit our website at www.srfol.org or mail your donation to:
